A brief glossary is at the end of this page, as there are some Scouting specific words that may cause confusion or intrigue. Sections of the 1st Chivenor Group:
This consists of Beavers aged 6 and 7 years old. Our Colony is extremely popular and often we have a waiting list. Children may register on the waiting list from the age of 5. They take part in a great deal of games, sporting events, art and craft activities under the careful guidance of our Beaver Leader Team.
This consists of Cubs aged 8 - 10½ year olds. Generally the youngsters have a hunger for something extra out of life and that is why they choose Scouting. Their preference may be the range of outdoor activities we offer, creative projects, fundraising, sports, camping or simply just fun!
Most Cubs move onto Scouts, plus many others join who have no previous Scouting experience. This section is open to 10½ to 14 year olds. Scouts have a great deal more freedom in the sense that they plan a lot of their activities as a Troop alongside the Leaders. Activities range from abseiling to kayaking; first aid to chef work; shooting, archery, survival skills and usually lots of camping and Nights Away.
Other areas within the Group:
This comprises of the Pack Sixers (or Seconders) who are the senior Cubs of the Pack. A Sixer is usually an older Cub or a hardworking one who has leadership skills and leads their Six (a small team of Cubs) forward. The Sixers' Council may make suggestions, lead and vote on relevant issues. The Sixers know that with the privileges come responsibilities.
This is a group of adult supporters who may directly or indirectly support the group in management capacities, manpower or simply being a reflective friend.
