Takes place normally in June or July each year

If you are a Scout (aged 10.5 to 14 by the end of June) - then you can.

See Chil or Skip for further details - teams need to be between 4-6 members; we do have another group who is willing to combine with us.

It is a similar Challenge to the District Moonlight Challenge but is a much larger audience, but much shorter course - and in the daylight!!!

THE HURDLESTONE CHALLENGE WEEKEND PROGRAMME

 

FRIDAY 27 JUNE 2008

 

3.00 pm                      Campsite opens–PLEASE NOTE NO ARRIVALS ON SITE AFTER 9.00 PM.

1st Chivenor will be arriving at around 5pm (ish).

6.00 pm - 8.00 pm      Tuck Shop and Badge Shop open

6.30 pm onwards       Teams called for registration

7.30 pm - 10.00 pm      Meetings for Service Crew, ALL Team Members and Adults. All the above will take place in the marquees. PLEASE LISTEN TO ALL ANNOUNCEMENTS.  Entertainment as time permits. 

(Soup and roll available during this time)

10.30 pm                      Entertainment ends

11.30 pm                      Lights out - No noise - Quiet please

 

SATURDAY 28 JUNE 2008

 

6.45 am                      Breakfast for Base Leaders and drop off drivers only

7.00 am - 8.00 am      Campers Breakfast

8.15 am                      Teams ready for departure near marquee

9.30 am - 5.30 pm      THE HURDLESTONE CHALLENGE

5.30 pm                      All Team Leaders must have reported to the Control Tent

6.30 pm                      Evening meal

SUNDAY 29 JUNE 2008

10.00 am -10.30 am     Camp assemble in Marquee for Guides/Scouts Own & details for the day

10.30 am – 11.00 am   HURDLESTONE GAME – all to attend

11.00 am - 2.00 pm      Sunday Fun Day For All with lunch available from

11.30 am

3.00 pm                      Litter pick of site and camp break

3.15 pm                      Presentation of awards and vote of thanks (FULL

UNIFORM)

4.00 pm approx.         Leave if site is cleared and adult leaders agree

 

HOW MUCH IS THE WEEKEND?

 TEAM MEMBERS  The inclusive fee is just £30.00 each.  This includes food, campsite fees, all entertainment, the Hurdlestone Challenge, the Sunday Fun Day, camp badge and certificate. Transport will be additional to this, but will be minimal.

  A non-refundable deposit of £10.00 per head is required with each Entry Form, with the balance payable BY 21st MAY 2008.

 This event is gaining in popularity, to avoid disappointment, we must book early.

A message from the organisers: Places will be allocated on a “first come, first served” basis until all 80 team places and 60 Service Crew places have been filled, or the closing date of 31 March 2008 has passed.

THE WEEKEND

 Your weekend commences immediately after the tents are pitched and registration has finished. Friday evening offers a light snack of soup and a roll with entertainment in the marquee, together with a briefing meeting on the Saturday’s CHALLENGE.

 

WHAT IS THE CHALLENGE?

 An exciting, action packed day for members of the Scout and Guide Association (aged up to 15½ by 1st August of the Challenge year), working in teams of 4 to 6 members.   Teams set off for the day and move around the course.  For safety reasons, they are required to carry certain items of kit.  They stop at activity bases on the way to gain points towards the HURDLESTONE CHALLENGE TROPHY.

 The HURDLESTONE CHALLENGE TROPHY will be presented to the team with the highest points scored during the day.  Certificates are also given for the team gaining the most points scored at each activity base.  No team will receive more than one award.  Also, each participant will receive a badge and certificate, just for taking part in the Challenge.

 They promise an exciting, fun-filled day.

 

WHAT IS THE SUNDAY FUN DAY?

 The Sunday Fun Day provides a day for all to enjoy the wide range of activities available which will include various sports, games, crafts and other activities.

 

WHAT ELSE IS THERE?

For the enjoyment and convenience of all, the following will also be provided:-

Food and catering, toilets, badge sales, Hurdlestone gift shop, tuck shop, first aid cover, safety vehicle, radio control and lots of fun!

THE HURDLESTONE CHALLENGE WEEKEND RULES

The following rules must be observed:-

1.   All participants of the Hurdlestone Challenge must be members of the Scout Association and Girlguiding UK and aged no more than 15½ on 1 August of the Challenge year.

2.   Teams must consist of at least four and no more than six members.  If numbers are reduced to fewer than four at any point in the Challenge, then they must accompany another team.

3.   Team members wishing to retire, must do so at a base, unless injured.

4.   All items on the kit list for the Challenge MUST be carried or worn at all times during the Challenge.  The Troop/Unit Neckerchief must be visibly and correctly worn.

5.   Teams must walk in single file on the roads and observe the Highway and Country Codes.  NO LITTER.

6.   Teams must attend all activity bases in the specified order.  Noise levels must be kept to a minimum.  Radios, personal stereos, GPS/Sat nav and mobile telephones will not be allowed by Scouts or Guides and will be confiscated if found.

8.   At 5.30 p.m. the Challenge will end.  Wherever a team is, it must return to the campsite, whether the course has been completed or not.

9.   Adult leaders are not permitted to accompany their teams but they may visit any/all of the activity bases.

10.  Aerosol sprays, alcoholic drinks & drugs are not permissible and action will be taken accordingly if found.

11.  Self-catering is not permissible but dining is allowed within your own designated area or in or around one of the main marquees.

12.  No dogs will be allowed on site during the weekend.

 

Spot checks will be carried out throughout the day by marshals.  Points will be deducted if the above rules are not adhered to and, if appropriate, disqualification of the whole team.
